What Is Kinesiology Tape?

Kinesiology tape is created with a breathable, stretchable material, usually cotton and an acrylic adhesive designed to help reduce pain and swelling caused by musculoskeletal injuries.

It comes in latex-free and hypoallergenic varieties for people who may be allergic to latex or the adhesive.

How Does It Work?

The tape is applied to the skin over the site of injury creating folds which lift the skin. This process decompresses the area to reduce pressure on the body’s pain receptors and allows for lymph to drain, which reduces swelling and allows increased blood flow to the area.

Kinesiotape is designed to stay on for an average of 3-4 days. The adhesive is heat sensitive, so your doctor will rub the tape to make sure it is properly adhered to your skin. Once adhered to your skin it basically acts as another layer of skin. You can exercise and shower with the tape on without any problems.
